ON THE RELATION BETWEEN CHANGES OF THE ARTERIAL PRESSURE AND THE STATE OF SOME REGULATORY MECHANISMS AT EARLY PERIODS FOLLOWING X-RAY IRRADIATION (in Russian)

Studies of early changes of the arterial pressure in rabbits following whole-body x irradiation established that the nature and extent of the alterations depend upon the time lapse after the action of radiation, as well as on the dose of radiation and its time distribution. In animals subjected to 600 and 1800 r for a period of 30 minutes an increase in the arterial pressure 20 minutes after irradiation was observed. Animals subjected to similar doses for a period of 100 minutes showed 20 minutes after the irradiation a drop of the arterial pressure, which was proportional to radiation dose. Phasic changes of the arterial pressure at early periods following irradiation depend on functional disturbances of regulatory mechanisms: an elevation of the arterial pressure is associated to a certain extent with the reaction of the sympathetic region, whereby a decrease is associated with the predominant influence of the parasympathetic region of the vegetative nervous system.
