STRONTIUM AND CALCIUM METABOLISM IN MAN. Final Report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4163200

Results of investigations of strontium and calcium metabolism in man are reported. Research aimed at determining the material balance of Sr/sup 90/ in subjects under a variety of conditions of diet and therapy is described along with simultaneously conducted comparative studies of Sr/sup 85/ (and in some cases Ca/sup 45/) metabolism. A study of the stable strontium disposition as a means of comparing the fate of equilibrated strontium with nonequilibrated Sr/sup 90/ was also conducted. Long-term studies on Sr/sup 85/ excretion and body load as an index for estimating the body load from an excretion rate are described, and results and conclusions are included. (J.R.D.)
