Considerations on the construction of reactor fuel elements in order to ensure optimum operating safety are described. It was proposed to arrange fuel elements of uranium monocarbide, plutonium monocarbide, or thorium monocarbide molded forms in a casing with a protective coating of carbides or silicides of elements of the IV and V group of the periodic system.
