ION-EXCHANGE SORPTION OF URANIUM ON PEATS FROM DILUTE SOLUTIONS

Journal Article · · Nukleonika (Poland)

The practicability of sorption of uranium from solutions of the concentrations of 1 g/l and 1 mg/l on peat was investigated. The exchange capacity of peat was found to depend on the pH of the solution and on the complexing of the uranyl cation. Sorption maximum is at pH 4----5. Complexing ions depress markedly the exchandge capacity of peat. Sorption of uranium from mine waters on peat was found to be practicable. When mine water, acidified to pH 4.5 is passed through peat its uranium concentration falls below 0.01 mg/l. Hydraulic resistance of peat was minimized by the use of horizontal-flow exchange appara
