ON THE GAMMA RAYS EMITTED IN THE DECAY OF $sub 5$$sub 9$$sup 140$Pr

The gamma rays from Nd/sup 140/-Pr/sup 140/ were studied in a scintillation spectrometer. New gamma rays of energies (900 plus or minus 20), (1600 plus or minus 30) and (2500 plus or minus 50) kev were detected; their intensities in comparison to the 511 kev annihilation radiation are (0.15 plus or minus 0.05)%, (0.50 plus or minus 0.10)%, and (0.02 plus or minus 0.01)%, respectively. The branching ratio from the decay of Pr/sup 140/ to the ground state, 1600 kev state, and 2500 kev state of Ce/sup 140/ were estimated from photon intensities to be 99%, approximately 1%, and approximately 0.2%, respectively, giving the value of log ft approximately 5 for all these branches. An assignment of 1/sup +/ for Pr/sup 140/ is suggested. (auth)
