The electron background of Ilford G5 electron-sensitive nuclear emulsions was studied for 3 x 2-in., 600- mu thick plates packed in cardboard and when boxes and shipped by air at 10,000- to 20,000-ft altitudes and by sea to Australla. The results show that plates arriving by air are more prone to excess radiation damage although 2 out of 60 plates shipped by sea gave exposures>25 mr. (D.L.C.)
