THE EFFECT OF HYDROGEN ON THE CREEP PROPERTIES OF ZIRCALOY-2

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4159420
Creep tests at 20,000 lb/in/sup 2/ and 300 deg F on annealed Zircaloy-2 showed that hydrogen concentrations up to 1075 ppm did not deferiorate the creep strength. Increasing the hydrogen content in fact decreased the amount of deformation obtained. Thermal cycles during the creep tests resulted in strain steps for those specimens with between 14 and 270 ppm hydrogen. Stress rupture tests at 300 deg C on notched specimens of annealed Zircaloy-2 containing 200 and 500 ppm hydrogen showed no tendency for delayed failure hydrogen embrittlement. (auth)
