DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY LOSS MEASUREMENTS FOR /cap alpha/-RAYS IN METAL FOILS

Journal Article · · Istanbul Univ. Fen Fak. Mecmuasi, Seri C
OSTI ID:4158532

Aluminum, gold, and nickel were used as absorbers, having thicknesses to cause roughly 10% energy loss. A silicon solid-state counter was used as detector. The sources were Pu/sup 239/, Po/sup 210/, Cm/sup 244/, Bi/sup 212/, Po/sup 212/. A graph showing dE/dx in kev as a function of energy in Mev for the above sources that cover the unmeasured energy range of 5 to 9 Mev for alpha particles is given. The experimental values of energy loss determined for the above substances agree, within experimental error, with the interpolated curve given by Allison et al., for protons of the corresponding energy range.
