ABSOLUTE ENERGY MEASUREMENT OF ALPHA PARTICLES FROM Po$sup 21$$sup 0$

The absolute alphn energy of P/sup 210/ alpha particles was measured by a 180 deg magnetic spectrometer. The value obtained was 5.3054 plus or minus 0.0010 Mev (absolute volts). Measurement of the energy ( alpha o) of the alpha particles from Cm/sup 244/ leading to the ground state of Pu/sup 240/ was made relative to the energy of the Po/sup 210/ alpha particles. A value of 5.8025 plus or minus 0.002 Mev was obtained for this Cm/sup 244/ alpha /sub o/ energy. The energy difference between the groumd state transition alpha /sub o/ and the transition alpha /sub 1/ to the first excited level of Pu/sup 24 from Cm/sup 211/ was found to be 43.5 plus or minus 1 kev.
