THYROID UPTAKE MEASUREMENTS WITH $sup 132$I FOLLOWING $sup 131$I THERAPY

Journal Article · · Physics in Medicine and Biology (England)
A method is described for measuring thyroid uptake with I/sup 132/ in patients who have received a therapeutic dose of I/sup 131/. The activity of I/ sup 132/ required is 100 a for therapeutic doses up to 12 mC. The uptake can be measured as early as one day after administration of the therapeutic dose. The change of uptake with time can be measured over many weeks, each uptake measurement requiring 100 VC I/sup 132/. The equipment consists of a standard directional scintillation counter modified by additional lead shielding. A simultaneous counting method is employed using two different discriminator bias voltages to provide discrimination of I/sup 132/ against I/sup 131/. (auth)
