YTTRIUM-NICKEL SYSTEM

Journal Article · · Trans. Met. Soc. AIME
OSTI ID:4156898

The nickel-yttrium system was investigated by metallographic, thermal, and x-ray methcds. Nine intermetallic compounds are present: Y/sub 3/Ni, Y/sub 3/ Ni/sub 2/, YNi/sub 2/, YNi/sub 3/, Y/ sub 2/Ni/sub 7/, YNi/sub 4/, and Y/sub 2/Ni/ sub 17/ which undergo peritectic decomposition, and YNi and YNi/sub 5/ which melt congruently. There are eutectics at 34.8, 57.5, and 93.3 at.% niobium which melt at are given for YNi, YNi/sub 2/, YNi/sub 3/, YNi/sub 5/, and Y/sub 2/Ni/sub 17/. T he terminal solid solubility is low. (auth)
