SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF MOLYBDENUM IN URANIUM WITH 8-QUINOLINOL (in Japanese)

Journal Article · · Bunscki Kagaku
A rapid spectrophotometric method for molybdenum, based on the extraction with chloroform as the 8-quinolinate was developed. Extraction of uranium is prevented by the use of a definite amount of fluoride ion as a masking agent (250 mg of fluoride ion for each 1 gram of uranium). In this condition, optimum pH range for the extraction of molybdenum is from 3.0 to 5.5. Common impurities are tolerated at reasonable levels; all other metals that are apt to accompany wvith molybdenum can readily be eliminated by washing the extract with an oxalic acid solution (0.1M, pH 1). The method is accurate and rapid ior the determination of molybdenum in uranium metal down to 0.5 ppm, and can also be applied to the analysis of uranium oxides or yellow cake containing relatively large amounts of molybdenum.
