ON THE CERENKOV ABSORPTION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION

The acceleration of charged particles by the Cherenkov absorption of electromagnetic radiation is considered. The case of a Dirac electron moving a dense transparent medium without boundaries in the presence of electromagnetic radiation pumped into the medium is discussed. The maximum value of the electron acceleration gained as a result of Cherenkov absorption of transversal isotropic radiation and induced emission is calculated. Different types of energy losses resulting from ionization, bremsstrahlung, and deviations resulting from scattering are also considered. (C.E.S.)
