THE USE OF DIFFUSION EQUATIONS FOR PL AND DOUBLE-PL CALCULATIONS

The spherical harmonics (P/sub L/) and double P/sub L/ approximations to the Boltzmann transport equation in slab geometry are developed in a matrix differential equation formalism. A series of two region problems were solved in the P/sub L/ approximations up to P/sub 15/ and the DP/sub L/ approximations up to DP/sub 3/. Angular distributions near the material interface and spatial distributions of the scalar fluxes are presented graphically. (auth)
