THE REPROCESSING OF URANIUM-MOLYBDENUM NUCLEAR FUELS (in French)

Journal Article · · Energie Nucl.
OSTI ID:4153697
After a brief review of the processes used for the reprocessing of irradiated U fuel elements, the difficulties encountered in the reprocessing of U- - Mo fuel elements for the recovery of Pu and U are examined. These difficulties occur during the dissolution of the alloy because of the low solubility of Mo in acid medium. The presence of Mo does not interfere with the extraction, but poses difficult problems, with respect to storage, during the treatment of fission products. Two possibilities for reducing the volume of the fission products, utilization of Mo-complexing agents andd storage in solid form, are discussed. (tr-auth)
