URANIUM OXIDE AS A NUCLEAR FUEL (in Italian)

Journal Article · · Ing. nucleare
OSTI ID:4153334
A lecture, originally delivered as a part of the 1959 ANDIN course in Fuels and Materials for Nuclear Installations, is presented. Several references are made to the basic theory of nuclear fuels, and a brief history of the use of uranium oxide as a fuel in various countries is given. The discussion includes the chemical methods for preparing the oxide and industrial methods for manufacturing fuel elements. The various phases of these procedures and the equipment needed to carry them out are described. The security measures to be adopted in order to prevent the escape of radioactive dust into the air, as well as criticality of materials, are reviewed. (auth)
