SOME MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF A GADOLINIUM SINGLE CRYSTAL (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Zh. Eksperim. i Teor. Fiz.
OSTI ID:4153067
The magnetic properties of a single crystal of gadolinium are measured from 20 to 1000 deg C. The magnetic susceptibility measured in a direction perpendicular to the axis c is greater than that in the parallel direction. Magnetization curves are measured in both directions near the magnetic transformation temperature (17 deg C). A critical field H/sub K/ == 3000 Oe is found at which the magnetization sharply increases. With increase of temperature the magnitude of the magnetization jump decreases and disappears at T = 100 deg C. The data indicate the existence of a complex spin configuration in gadolinium. (auth)
