THE SEPARATION OF PERIPHERAL AND CENTRAL COLLISIONS IN HIGH ENERGY INTERACTIONS (in German)

Journal Article · · Ann. Physik
A method for the separation of the central and peripheral collisions in high-energy interactions was investigated. The separation terminates in a separation of the events in which the angular distribution of the pi mesons produced is isotropic in the pi -nucleon center of mass system. As a parameter for differentiation of the peripheral and central collisions, the Lorentz factor of the center-of-mass system of the charged n mesons is used. The method was applied to the pi -nucleon interaction at 7.5 Bev/c. With this method it is possible to consider separately the aninilar and pulse distribution of the secondary particles for peripheral and central collisions. The central collisions can be explained by means of the statistical theory. Isobar formation is present in peripheral collisions. (tr-auth)
