The Response of Neoplasms to X-Radiation in Vivo at Increased Oxygen Tension
The response of two types of tumor to x irrdaiation in vivo at increased oxygen tension was investigated. One of the tumors under study was an epithelial types, designated DBAH; the other, a spindle-cell types, designated DBAG. Both types of tumor were grown hy serial transplants in isolcgous hosts of the inbred DBA/2l2 strain of mices. It was found that a dose of 5000 r applied locally to the spindle cell tumors produced more total regressions in those mice breathing 100% oxygen at 3 atm. than in those breath ing air. Somewhat similar results were obtained with 6000 r applied locally to the epithelial type of tumor- The significanes of the results obtained and the implications in volved are discussed.
