PHOTOSPLITTING OF N$sup 14$ NUCLEI (in Russian)

Photofission of nitrogen, in particular the mechanism of ( gamma ,np) with large yield, was investigated. The experiments were carried out with a Wilson chamber filled with nitrogen and helium at partial pressures of 390 and 500 mm mercury, respectively, and maximum gamma bremsstrahlung energy of 90 Mev. The data on relative yield, based on 2633 events, are shown. The total gamma absorption cross section is 9.8 plus or minus 0.8 mb/Q. The total integral cross section for gamma absorption by Nil was 0.3 Mev barn. The energy spectra and angular distribution of protons from N/sup 14/( gamma ,p)C/sup 13/ and N/sup 14/( gamma ,np)C/sup 12/ reactions are plotted a nd analyzed. (R.V.J.)
