THE INFLUENCE OF PROTON AND GAMMA-EMISSIONS ON THE FUNCTIONAL STATE OF THE VESTIBULAR ANALYZER (in Russian)
The threshold sensitivity and reactivity of the vestibular analyzer of dogs was assessed on an electric rotating device, which enables a wide amplitude of angular accelerations and speeds to be obtained. The reaction of both labyrinths to caloric stimulation was also studied. Irradiation was by protons (energy of 510 Mev) in a dose of 500 and 350 rad and gamma rays in a single dose of 200 r and in fractional doses --9 r per day, with a dose energy of 0.05 r/min. Changes of the vestibular analyzer (a diminution of the threshold sensitivity snd reactivity) were most pronounced in disturbances of common compensatory mechanisms. The presence of levelling, paradoxical phases of inhibition, and a disturbance of reciprocal correlations in the activity of labyrinths in acute radiation sickness are disclosed. Upon investigation of vestibulovegetative reflexes an intensification of the parasympathetic effect was noted. (P.C.H.)
