ELASTIC SCATTERING OF 9-Mev GAMMA QUANTA ON LEAD AND URANIUM (in German)

Journal Article · · Helvetica Physica Acta (Switzerland)
OSTI ID:4150212
Theoretical and experimental results on the elastic scattering of gamma rays (nuclear Thomson, Rayleigh, Delbruck, and nuclear resonance scattering) were collected, and experimental investigations, using the Ni(n, gamma ) reaction to produce 9-Nev gamma radiation at a reactor in order to measure differential cross sections for lead and uranium at angles between 20 and 144 deg , are described. The results agree with the theoretical predictions at large angles; at small angles only if the Delbruck scattering is taken into consideration. The studies therefore provide evidence of gamma elastic scattering by nuclear electromagnetic fields. (auth)
