HBWR QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORT, APRIL-JUNE 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4148422
Calibration measurements on the instrumented fuel assembly (IFA) No. 2 and 3 were completed. The integral void experiment was carried out followed by the high power cadmium-oscillator experiment. Preliminary noise and steam load experiments and the macroscopic flux distortion due to presence of void measurement were also carried out. Both the second and third instrumented fuel assemblies were commissioned and put into service. Data handling was improved by speeding up the analog-to-digited converter, putting the GIER computer into operation, and application of the Beckman analog computer for in-line data reduction as in the case of the direct reading reactivity meter. The conceptual design for the new high specific power instrumented fuel assembly IFA-4 was completed. The electrically heated boiling test loop was commissioned, the limits of electrical output were partially determined, and means for programmed electrical power oscillation were tested. (N.W.R.)
