Measuring the Yield of Electron-Positron Conversion. Note No. 154; MESURE DU RENDEMENT DE CONVERSION NEGATON-POSITON

Electron-positron conversion yields were measured on platinum conversion targets of various thicknesses and at various electron energies. The apparatus used in the measurement is described and shown graphically. The results are shown graphically for a 1-Mev energy band in the solid angie 5.4 x 10/sup -3/ steradians. They show that the yield is, in general, optimum for a converter thickness of the order of a radiation length. The graphs permit the optimum thickness of the converter to be determined as a function of the predetermined needs. An appendix discusses the resolution R = DELTA E/E. (J.S.R.)
