REACTOR PLANT CONTAINER INTEGRITY TEST (AIR LOCK TEST). Core 1. Seed 4. Test Evaluation

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4147737
The purpose of a particular reactor plant container integrity test (air- lock test) is to prove the integrity of each of six air locks by means of an air pressure test, visual inspection, and operating check. Air lock number one maintained the required integrity with a minimum of maintenance and allowed hand wheel operation with one third the torque required by the other air locks maintaining the same integrity. Airlock number one is equipped with mechanical seals on all shaft penetrations whereas all other air locks use packing glands. The data do not indicate that increased air lock integrity results from lubrication of the door gaskets. Three failures of the an gasket popping'' mechanism were observed. These failures were caused by pressure regulators that were contaminated by oil and foreign particles. (auth)
