Study of the Trapping of Iodine by Active Charcoals; ETUDE DE L'ARRET DE L'IODE PAR LES CHARBONS ACTIFS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4147256
The efficiency of active charcoal towards I/sup 131/ was studied during a series of experiments. The influence of: the iodine concentration of the air current, the rate of flow of air across the charcoal, and the charcoal thickness, was determined. The results obtained lead to the conclusion that the iodine, after passage across a so-called absolute'' filter, is present in two different physical forms, and that the action of the active charcoals is different for the two forms. These results make it possible, however, to calculate industrial filters with a good degree of approximation. (auth)
