Values for the heat and entropy of tusion, heat content, and heat capacity of La, Pr, Nd, and Gd bromides and Gd, Ho, and Er chlorides are given. LaBr/sub 3/, PrBr/sub 3/, and GdCl/sub 3/ and NdBr/sub 3/ have similar entropies of fusion to those found for the chlorides of La, Pr, and Nd and the iodides of Ce and Pr. On the other handd, Ho and Er chlorides and GdBr/sub 3/ have unusually low entropies of fusion. The low entropy of fusion of HoCl/sub 3/, ErCl/sub 3/, and GdBr/sub 3/, in which the ionic radius r/sub M//sup 3+/ is greater than r/sub Al//sup 3+/, is in agreement with the fac t that their melts are ionic like the crystals and like the melts of the lower rare earth trichlorides, such as LaCl/sub 3/.
