Distortion of the (CN$sup -$$)$$sub 4$ plane of Ni(CN)$sub 4$$sup 3-$ complex in NaCl: evidence from EPR

The complex Ni(CN)$sub 4$$sup 3-$, which would be expected to be unstable, was produced by x and $gamma$ irradiation of NaCl crystals doped with the stable complex Ni(CN)$sub 4$$sup 2-$. The EPR spectrum of Ni(CN)$sub 4$$sup 2-$ was observed and its temperature dependence explained in terms of distortion of the complex from its square planar structure. (AIP)
