THE MEASUREMENT OF U$sup 238$:U$sup 235$ FISSION RATIOS

A method is described for measuring U/sup 238/: U/sup 235/ fission ratios in heterogeneous thermal reactor assemblies using aluminum disks as catcher foils and beta -counting techniques. The assumptions implicit in the formulas which yield fission ratios from measured count-ratios are listed with comments on their validity. Eeperimental results for a 1.2" diameter uranium metal rod sre presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the method. (auth)
