THE MOSAIC TYPE SILICON SURFACE-BARRIER DETECTOR FOR LOW LEVEL ALPHA PARTICLE SPECTROMETRY

The design and operating characteristics of a mosaictype silicon surface- barrier detector with a sensitive area of 180 mm/sup 2/ for spectroscopic identification of alphaemitting nuclides in low activity samples are given. The counter is suitable for study of alpha spectra in samples of total activity down to 10/sup -12/ C with a background of less than 0.005 count per minute. (auth)
