PSEUDOSCALAR COUPLING AND S-WAVE PION-NUCLEON AND KAON-NUCLEON SCATTERING

The pion-nucleon s-wave scattering is investigated in the case of the Yukawa interaction of pseudoscalar coupling, making use of the Chew-Low formalism. It is shown that the s-wave amplitude of the pi -N scattering is strongly damped compared with the perturbation theoretic calculation. This is due to the fact that the second order matrix elements are alrnost cancelled by some of the fourth order ones which appear in the reduced Chew-Low equation as modified Bonn terms. The photo-pion production near the threshold energy is discussed on the same footing. In this case, this sort of cancellation does rot occur and the amplitudes for this process remain unchanged. The charge ratio of photo-pion productions was calculated at the threshold energy and a value (2.27) which is larger than the experiments one (1.87 plus or minus 0.13) was obtained. In addition the low energy kron-nucleon and the pion-hyperan scattering are treated in a similar number. (auth)
