FATIGUE IN PHOTOMULTIPLIER TUBES--AN EFFECT OF THE MALTER TYPE

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods
>The identity of the fatigue phenomenon present in photomultiplier tubes with the effect discovered by Malter as a result of electron bombardment of thin oxide films of high resistivity was established. The empirical and theoretical expressions that describe the phenomenon in photomultiplier tubes also explain the data reported by Malter, both with respect to time variations and final saturation limits. The knowledge of the nature and control of fatigue in phototubes should help to develop practical applications of the Malter effect. (auth)
