CORROSION RESISTANCE OF VARIOUS CERAMICS AND CERMETS TO LIQUID METALS

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/4142090· OSTI ID:4142090
The procedures used for the corrosion screening testing of ceramics and cermets in liquid Li, Na, and Pb are discussed briefly. The results of such tests on various ceramics and cermets exposed for 100 hr to the liquid metals at 1500 deg F are given. These include various borides, carbides, nitrides, oxides, and silicides for the ceramics. The major part of the cermet screening corrosion tests reported are on tungsten carbide- and titanium carbide-base cermets. Some present and future uses for corrosion resistant ceramics and cermets are outlined. (auth)
