FISSION OF URANIUM-238 WITH $mu$$sup -$ MESONS (in Russian)

The interaction of mu /sup -/ mesons at 150 Mev with U/sup 238/ was investigated using nuclear emulsions. The experimental set-up and the development of the emulsion are described. Some 26,975 cases of the stopping of the mesons in the emulsion were investigated, and 59 cases of fission were observed. The fission probability was considered on the basis of the Fermi- Teller principle and of its independence from Z. The results are compared with previous results. (J.S.R.)
