THE ISOLATION OF CAESIUM-137 FROM LIQUID RADIOACTIVE FALL-OUT

A method is suggested for the isolation of Cs/sup 137/ from liquid radioactive fallout, suitable for the treatment of up to 1 liter of water in one batch. Cesium is coprecipitated with Prussian blue and dissolution of the precipitate in a saturated EDTA solution at pH 10, is followed by extraction of cesium as its dipicrylaminate, by nitrobenzene.
