THE DETERMINATION OF CAESIUM 137
Separation of Cs/sup 137/ with inactive cesium carrier involving precipitation of cesiuna perchlorate, scavenging with ferric hydroxide, and precipitation of cesium chloroplatinate is described. If necessary a preliminary separation of the cesium from potassium and large amounts of sodium and ammonimn is made by precipitation of cesium silicotungstate. The Cs/sup 137/ is estimated by gamma counting the chloroplatinate precipitate. The method is applicable to solutions of irradiated uranium that has cooled for a minimum period of four hours and to solutions containing potassium, sodium, and ammonium. The method does not discriminate against Cs/sup 134/ and high results will be obtained if this nuclide is present. (auth)
