PROCESS FOR OBTAINING PLUTONIUM IN THE FORM OF A CONCENTRATED SOLUTION

A process is given for obtaining a concentrated Pu solution from an aqueous acid solution of irradiated nuclear fuel. The process comprises extracting Pu/sup 4+/ from the fuel solution by a dilute tertiary amine in an organic phase and then washing the organic phase with an aqueous solution of acidity greater than 0.1 N and of a redox potential sufficient to maintain Pa in the tetravalent state. The re-extracting acid solution is preferably a mixture of H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ and HNO/sub 3/. (D.L.C.)
