High-pressure absorption spectrum of CO$sub 2$ laser bands at 10 $mu$m

The absorption coefficient at the center of several lines of the 961- and 1064-cm$sup -1$ bands of CO$sub 2$ has been measured for CO$sub 2$ and mixtures of CO$sub 2$ and N$sub 2$ and He at absolute pressures to 18 atm. The data are in good agreement with the theory of pressure-broadened non-Lorentzian overlapping lines, which predicts greater peak absorption than theories that calculate the spectrum as a sum of Lorentzian-shaped lines.
