A spectrographic method for the determination of hafnium in zirconium in the concentration range of approximately 2% hafnium in zirconium to 99% hafnium in zirconium is described. Analytical conditions are such that the whole concentration range can be covered with a singie exposure. The variable interval standard method was used. The advantages of the tape method, combined with the similarity of the chemical and physical behavior of hafnium and zirconium and the employment of analytical line pairs with similar excitation characteristics, provided an ideal system for obtaining reproducible spectrographic results. The coefficient of variation for the method varied between 1 and 1.3%. (auth)
