OXYGEN ISOTOPIC FRACTIONATION IN THE WATER OF CRYSTALLIZATION OF GYPSUM

Journal Article · · Nature
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1038/200644a0· OSTI ID:4134310
The oxygen isotopic composition of water samples was determined by equilibrating them with CO/sub 2/ at 25 deg C, and then analyzing the CO/sub 2/ with a mass spectrometer. Two sets of experiments that were used for the determination of the isotopic fractionation factor between water of crystallization of gypsum and water in which the deposition occurs are described. Isotopic results of the O/sup 18//O/sup 16/ ratio at 57 and 47 deg C are tabulated. (P.C.H.)
