A study of the effect of x rays on the survival and growth of young rats showed that the growth of rats whole-body irradiated at the age of 8 or 17 days is slowed only after xray doses of at least 300 r. The weight loss of the testicles is strongly affected even after very low doses. This weight decrease, which is less pronounced in individuals protected with AET than in nonprotected mice, depends on the irradiation dose and the age. The kidneys of young rats are more radiosensitive than those of adult rats (105 mortality less than 6 months after irradiation as a result of nephritis in the irradiated rats. (tr-auth)
