RADIONUCLIDE-BATTERIES FOR SPACE TRAVEL (in German)

Journal Article · · Weltraumfahrt
OSTI ID:4132534
The use of radioisotope-fueled thermoelectric or thermionic cells for electric energy production in space vehicles is discussed. Energy change and construction of the radionuclide batteries are described. The use of Sr/sup 90/ a mixture of fission products, Po/sup 210/, Pu/sup 238/, Cm/sup 242/, or Cm/sup as the heat source is discussed. Generators being built or planned are described briefly. Safety studies are described. (M.C.G.)
