PHOTOGALVANIC AND PHOTOVOLTAIC EFFECTS WITH ANODIZED ZIRCONIUM AND NIOBIUM ELECTRODES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4130523
The nature of these photoeffects is examined by the use of data procured with anodized zirconium and niobium electrodes, which function as photogalvanic or photovoltaic cells and exhibit characteristic maximum photopotentials and short-circuit photocurrents. The spectral dependences of photopotentials and photocurrents correspond to the absorption spectra of the isolated ancdic oxide films. A model electrode based on the semiconductor properties of the oxide film is proposed to explain the observed photoeffects. (W. L. H.)
