PROCESS FOR PREPARING SHAPED ARTICLES OF URANIUM SILICIDES

A process is given for the production of shaped uranium silicide articles in a simple manner. The process comprises introducing into a mold an intimate mixture of U and Si particles in the desired proportions, heating the mixture in vacuo to >450 deg C (preferably 625 to 675 deg C), and then setting the product by heating in vacuo to a higher temperature (1400 to 1500 deg C). An apparatus using induction heating for carrying out the process is described. (D.L.C.)
