NUCLEAR INDUCTION MAGNETOMETER

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4128342
A nuclear induction magnetometer for measuring small magnetic fields, e.g., earth's magnetic field, is designed which is based on the Overhauser- Abragam effect. This effect, which involves the addition to the liquid sample of a paramagnetic substance having hyperfine structure, enables not only the reduction of the intensity of the auxiliary biasing magnetic field but also the reduction of the duration of application of this biasing field. The magnetometer is designed so that the field is applied on the order of one millisecond, enabling a large number of measurements per minute to be made. (D.L.C.)
