A process for coating solid nuclear fuel particles with pyrolytic graphite is described. The process, carried out at 1700 to 3000 deg C and at pressures of 1 to 200 mm Hg, uses a vapor-phase method in which pyrolytic graphite is deposited on the solid fuel by the thermal decomposition of a hydrocarbon gas.
