An apparatus that is suitable to study fused chlorides by the polarographic technique is described. Dropping bismuth is used in a way analogous to dropping mercury. Polarographic waves are shown for PbCl/sub 2/, ZnCl/sub 2/, and CdCl/sub 2/ in a LiCl-KCl eutectic melt at 450 deg C. The method serves as an analytical tool at high temperatures and also yields physicochemical information such as diffusion coefficients by application of the Ilkovic equation. (auth)
