ON THE COLORATION LAYER IN DEUTERON-IRRADIATED LiF CRYSTALS

Journal Article · · Physica Status Solidi (East Germany) Divided into Phys. Status Solidi A and Phys. Status Solidi B
Synthetic LiF crystals grown in high vacuum were irradiated with 13.5- Mev deuterons. The colored layer was removed in 34 steps and the coloration spectrum measured after each step. No qualitative differences in the coloration spectra at different depths could be established. A method for the determination of the thickness of the colored layer is described and used to measure the thickness of the layer for the strongest coloration bands at 248 (F band), 445 (M band), 316 (R/sub 1/ band), and 378 nm (R/sub 2/ band). The mean value of the average range was about (0.655 plus or minus 0.001) mm. The thickness of the colored layer is shown to be related to the depth of penetration of the deuterons. (auth)
