Asymmetries in the elastic scattering of polarized protons by deuterium were measured at 419 Mev at proton center-of-mass angles from 47.9 to 115/sup o/. The inferred polarizations are -0.092 plus or minus 0.058 at 47.9/sup o/, - 0.502 plus or minus 0.058 at 59/sup o/, -0.583 plus or minus 0.081 at 68/sup o/, -0.141 plus or minus 0.056 at77.8/sup o/, -0.122 plus or minus 0.111 at 90/ sup o/,-0.150 plus or minus 0.059 at 97/sup o/,-0,309 plus or minus 0.073 at 105/sup o/, and +0.174 plus or minus 0.059 at 115/sup o/. It is suggested that using the impulse approximation these results may serve as a test of nucleon- nucleon scattering phase shifts or, with protonproton scattering data, may be used to obtain I = 0 nucleonnucleon phase shifts.
