STEAM SEPARATION TECHNOLOGY UNDER THE EURATOM PROGRAM. Quarterly Progress Report, October 1, 1963-December 31, 1963
Carryover experiments in the steam-water test facility are complete. The experiments determine the maximum pemissible steam release rate from a two- phase interface. Steam volume fraction measurements, run in conjunction with the carryover tests, are correlated, and the correlation equation is in final form. The centrifugal type downcomer separator, is now being tested in the steamwater facility. Pressure drop and flow-characteristic results from the test are in line with those predicted from the air-water facility. A 6-inch diameter centrifugal type upflow separator is developed and tested in the air-water facility. Results show that this separator has a relatively high pressure drop; however, carryunder characteristics are good. An 8-inch diameter centrifugal type upflow separator, which has lower pressure drop than the 6-inch sepalator, is being tested. The inverted cone type separator, which is made of perforated plate suspended over the downcomer, is tested. Results show this type of separator does not decrease carryunder appreciably. Test of a radial arc separator is in progress. (auth)
